This Privacy Policy explains how user information is handled in the browser extension My View Point (the “Service”).
1. Basic Policy
The Service handles information only to the extent necessary to provide its features and strives not to collect unnecessary information. This policy distinguishes between information stored in the browser and information sent to external services.
Compliance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information in this Service complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
2. Information Handled by the Service
2-1. Information Stored in the Browser
The Service mainly stores the following information in the user’s browser:
- Selected text
- Notes entered by the user
- Information related to heading and marker positions
- Information used to identify pages
- Reduced and compressed image data saved by the user as Image View Points
- Image URLs, alternative text, titles, captions, and other image-related information
- Image display positions, dimensions, and information required for restoration and identification
- Display style and display settings
- Data exported or imported by the backup feature
- Language settings, notification settings, and other usage settings
- Plan information, anonymous IDs, and other identifiers required for operation
This information is used to provide features such as display, restoration, list display, jumping, highlighting, saving settings, exporting individual Text and Image View Points, and exporting View Points by page.
Exports are initiated by the user and are performed by copying to the clipboard or downloading files to the user’s device. Exported content is not sent to the developer’s server for this processing.
This information is stored in the user’s browser. The Service has no function that sends saved View Points, images, notes, or other saved content to the developer. The developer cannot remotely access the storage area in the user’s browser or view its saved content.
However, if the user chooses to send saved content, a backup file, a screenshot, or similar information when making an inquiry or reporting an issue, the developer can review only the information that the user has chosen to send.
When saving an Image View Point, the Service may connect to the source that provides the image in order to retrieve the image data. If image data cannot be retrieved directly on Gemini, the Service may temporarily capture the visible tab and crop the target image. The full-tab image used for this temporary processing is not retained; only the target image data is saved in the user’s browser as an Image View Point. None of this content is sent to the developer’s server.
2-2. Information Sent Through External Communications
The Service communicates externally as necessary for paid-plan sign-up, license checks, trial activation, reflecting subscription status, payment procedures, and the stable provision of the Service.
Depending on the operation, the following information is handled in these communications:
- Anonymous ID
- Plan selected by the user
- Currency group (JPY or USD)
- Type of requested operation
- Source IP address (only for access-limit decisions)
The items sent vary depending on the operation, and only the items required for that operation are sent. View Points, images, notes, and other content stored by the user in the browser are not sent for these operations.
Handling of Source IP Addresses
When communicating with the Service’s server, the source IP address is transmitted to the server in the same way as with ordinary web communications. The Service uses it only to determine whether excessive communications are being repeated from the same source within a short period and to protect the stable provision of the Service.
IP addresses are not used to determine the user’s location, continuously track behavior, deliver advertising, analyze usage tendencies, create user profiles, sell information, or for any other unrelated purpose.
Records stored by the Service for access limiting do not contain the IP address itself. The IP address is converted into an identifier that does not display the original value, and only the communication category, count, decision time, restriction status, and deletion deadline are stored for a short period. These records have an expiration time and are automatically deleted in due course after they expire.
These records are used only for access-limit decisions. View Points, images, notes, and other content stored by the user in the browser are not involved in this process and are not sent to the server.
2-3. When a User Voluntarily Contacts Us or Submits a Survey
The Service does not automatically collect or send email addresses, inquiry messages, or survey responses. This information is sent only when the user chooses to use email or Google Forms and performs the relevant send or submit action.
When making an inquiry by email, the Service opens the user’s email application or email service. The email is not automatically sent by the Service. It is sent to the developer’s contact address through the email service used by the user only after the user reviews the content and performs the send action.
In this case, the sender’s email address, the message entered by the user, and, when the support page was opened from the popup, an anonymous ID may be included.
When using Google Forms, the anonymous ID is passed to Google Forms when the form is opened. If the user submits a response, the content entered by the user is also sent to Google Forms.
The Service does not automatically send this information without the user’s action or send it to destinations unrelated to handling inquiries or surveys.
3. Information the Developer Cannot Obtain or View Through the Extension
As part of the extension’s functionality, the Service does not obtain names, addresses, phone numbers, or other information that directly identifies an individual.
The following information stored by the user in the browser is not sent to the developer, and the developer cannot remotely access the browser’s storage area to view it:
- Selected text
- Saved images and image-related information
- Notes
- Heading, marker, and image position information
- Information used to identify pages
- Display settings
- Backup data stored in the browser
However, if the user chooses to send any of this content when making an inquiry or reporting an issue, the developer can review only the information that the user has chosen to send.
4. Purposes of Use
The Service uses the information it handles for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- To operate features such as saving View Points, list display, jumping, highlighting, exporting individual Text and Image View Points, exporting View Points by page, style changes, and backups
- To preserve user settings and display states
- To perform license checks, start trials, reflect billing status, and manage payments
- To respond to inquiries voluntarily sent by users and to review survey responses, feedback, and feature requests
- To investigate issues, improve quality, maintain stable operation of the Service, and prevent unauthorized or excessive access
5. Browser Storage and External Communications
View Points, images, notes, page information, display settings, backup data, and other information saved by the Service are stored in the user’s browser. This saved content is not automatically sent to the developer’s server.
When external communication is performed for license checks, trial activation, paid-plan sign-up, reflecting subscription status, or access limiting, only the items required for each operation from those listed in “2-2. Information Sent Through External Communications” are sent.
If the user uses email or Google Forms, information selected or entered by the user is sent through the user’s own action. The Service does not automatically send inquiry messages or survey responses without the user’s action.
6. Use of External Services
The Service uses services provided by the following parties in order to provide its features:
- Stripe, Inc.: Paid-plan sign-up, payment processing, and payment management
- Google LLC: License checks, trial activation, reflecting subscription status, stable operation of the Service, survey collection, and inquiry handling
- Netlify, Inc.: Hosting the official page and related pages
- The email service selected by the user: Inquiries voluntarily sent by the user
Email addresses, authentication information, and payment information entered by the user on Stripe pages are handled directly by Stripe and are not received by the extension.
Information that the user voluntarily enters and sends through payment pages, Google Forms, email, or similar services is handled by the relevant service provider. The handling of information by each provider is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy policy.
7. Disclosure to Third Parties
The operator of the Service does not provide user information to third parties except in the following cases:
- When the user has given consent
- When coordination with external services is necessary for payment processing, license management, stable operation of the Service, page hosting, or receiving inquiries or survey responses voluntarily submitted by users
- When disclosure is required by law
- When necessary to protect life, body, or property
8. Notes on Content Saved by Users
The Service includes features that allow users to save selected text, images, and notes for their own use.
This information is stored in the user’s browser. The Service has no function that sends the saved content to the developer, and the developer cannot remotely access the storage area in the user’s browser to view the content.
However, if users choose to save sensitive personal information, confidential information, or information related to third parties, they should do so at their own discretion, taking into account shared devices, backup file handling, and any future synchronization features that may be added.
9. Future Synchronization Features
At this time, cloud synchronization using a Google account is not included in the initial release.
If Google account integration or cloud synchronization is added in the future, for example in a Pro plan, this policy will be updated to explain the storage location, the information sent, and the scope handled by the developer or external services, and appropriate notice will be provided.
10. Retention Period
View Points, images, notes, settings, and other data saved in the Service are stored in the user’s browser and remain until the user deletes them, the extension is removed, or the storage area is cleared.
Records stored for access limiting have an expiration time and are automatically deleted in due course after they expire.
Inquiries or survey responses that users voluntarily send through email, Google Forms, or other external methods may be retained for a certain period as necessary to respond, review, or follow up.
11. Security
The operator of the Service takes reasonable security measures to prevent leakage, loss, damage, or unauthorized access to the information handled.
However, due to the nature of internet communication and electronic storage, complete security cannot be guaranteed.
12. Use by Minors
Minor users should use the Service with parental or guardian consent when necessary.
13. Changes to This Policy
The operator of the Service may change this policy as necessary.
If there are material changes, reasonable notice will be provided.
The revised Privacy Policy takes effect when it is published.
